Our Heritage

First Reformed Church, an active congregation in the Reformed Church in America (RCA), was organized on May 6, 1871. The congregation was established to serve the heavy influx of Dutch settlers moving into northwest Iowa. The Christian faith was very important to these early settlers and the growth of the congregation became significant as years passed.

Historically, First Church has been very mission-minded. It has commissioned and sent numerous men and women into the ministry or mission fields.

First Church initiated the organization of Northwestern College and still supports it and other RCA colleges and seminaries.
