In Bahrain, with the constant encouragement of the king (Bahrain became a kingdom in 2000, having previously been identified as an emirate), the American Mission Hospital has continued its mission of compassionate Christian witness and service. Our mission hospital there was the first modern hospital in the Arabian Gulf. A major celebration that included prominent business leaders and government officials was held in November 2002 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of its opening. The hospital is still under the direction of an RCA missionary doctor, and a mission partner serves the hospital as chaplain. - RICHARD & MAJA WESTRA
